We all know how important it is to have open communication with our managers, especially when it comes to feeling supported at work. When it comes to mental health, what’s something you wish your manager really understood? Sometimes, sharing our insights can make a big difference in creating a more supportive environment.
Here are a few things to think about:
- Work-Life Balance: Making sure personal time is respected and recognising when we need to recharge.
- Mental Health Awareness: Being more aware and understanding of mental health challenges can go a long way.
- Flexible Arrangements: Flexible hours or remote work can really help boost well-being.
What’s one thing you wish your manager knew to better support your mental health? Let’s share our thoughts and see how we can help each other create a more understanding and compassionate workplace.

Hhonestly, my boss needs to really get that work-life balance isn’t optional. Respecting our downtime and mental health should be the bare minimum!! always whatsapping after hours and during weekends…
Sometimes, it feels like managers don’t really get the whole mental health thing. Like, they might say they’re “here to support” but when it comes down to it, do they actually understand what we need? Constantly pushing for more without recognising burnout just doesn’t work. It’s so exhausting! Also, it’s funny how they act like mental health days are a luxury; seeing it more of an excuse than a basic necessity. I wish our managers weren’t just aware of mental health but actually practiced what they preach.
Thanks for sharing! I totally agree that work-life balance should never be optional, and it’s frustrating when after-hours communication gets in the way of personal time. Your downtime is so important, and managers need to respect that boundary. Have you ever tried setting clear boundaries with your boss, or do you feel like that wouldn’t help in your situation?
You’ve raised such an important point! there’s a big difference between saying “I support mental health” and actually understanding what people need. Burnout is so real, and it’s exhausting when managers don’t recognize it. Has anyone experienced a situation where their manager truly understood and respected their mental health needs? What made the difference for you?
