I feel like I’m constantly being asked to take on more tasks even when my plate is already full. my boss keeps piling things on and it’s becoming SOOO overwhelming. the worst part? everyone else on the team seems to just say no when they get asked, no problem! but when it comes to me, it’s like he assumes I’ll just do it. How do I handle this without making it seem like I’m not a team player or risking my job?
hey @annabelle, I hear you, and that sounds incredibly frustrating! It’s tough when you feel like you’re being given more than you can handle, especially when it seems like others can easily say no. It’s important to find a balance between being a team player and setting healthy boundaries for yourself.
Have you considered having a direct but respectful conversation with your boss? Maybe explaining that while you want to contribute, you’re at your limit and taking on more could affect the quality of your work. Sometimes people aren’t aware of how much they’re piling on. You could also ask for help in prioritizing tasks so you can focus on the most important ones first.
What do you think? Could setting boundaries in a calm way help in this situation?
hmmm maybe. i’m not used to discussing things with my boss like this, it’s usually him giving orders and me just doing the tasks but I think you’re right, I need to have a proper conversation with him. maybe he doesn’t realise how much is on my plate and i’m at my limit. thanks @beegees , let me have a go!
@annabelle I totally understand how that could feel uncomfortable at first, especially if you’re not used to having those kinds of conversations. But it’s great that you’re open to trying it out! Sometimes bosses really don’t realize the workload they’re handing out, so being upfront could make a big difference.
Good luck with the conversation and remember, you’ve got this! And if you ever need to talk it through afterward, we’re here to support you!
thanks so much for the encouragement! honestly, i was nervous but it worked!! i pointed out how much work i was gettin and he said that he didn’t realise i felt this way. he’s since been a bit more mindful, appreciate the support!
