Money vs mental health

hey, i’m in a bit of a dilemma. from the outside everything looks great - i’ve got a high paying job in a well-known consultancy firm that operates beyond malaysia; a lot of people would love a job here!! but the truth is, i feel stuck. i’ve been trying to leave my job for two years because it doesn’t excite me anymore but i haven’t had any luck.

i’m not passionate about what i’m doing (i’m actually more interested in business matters) but i’m trapped in a role that pays well yet drains me… i know this doesn’t sound like much of a problem - boohoo… you’re still making good money anyways - but honestly, it’s eating into my mental health.

also, with the job market being what it is, I’m not sure how to navigate this. any advice?

sounds like the classic ccase of golden handcuffs! i’ve been in your shoes and tbh, i left a highER paying job for a peace of mind. haven’t looked back since but i guess it depends on what your life priorities are at the moment…

hahaha, golden handcuffs sounds about right!! honestly, i don’t have many commitments at the moment. it’d be nice to have this kind of money but i think i’m still flexible about it.

Hey @loveletterz , thanks for sharing what you’re going through. Honestly, i can see how this situation would feel really tough, even if it seems like a “good problem” from the outside. It’s completely valid to feel stuck when your job doesn’t excite you anymore and it’s draining your mental health. Being in a high-paying role doesn’t automatically make things easier, especially when you’re not passionate about what you’re doing.

It sounds like you’re caught between staying for the financial security and wanting to pursue something more aligned with your interests. BUT it also seems like you’ve already made the first step - you’ve realised what you’re more interested in doing… which is a great!

Here are a few things you might want to consider:

  • exploring business opportunites like networking, online courses or certifications. it could help you gradually build skills and conncections in the field before you make a jump!
  • are there any business-like opportunities in your current firm? changing roles within the company?
  • are any side projects you could start to have an insight into how it’d be like to go into a business-like role?
  • and if you feel really stuck, you can consider speaking to one of our executive coaches: Therapy and health consultation booking - Malaysia - Naluri

The job market can be tough right now but you’re not trapped. Small steps can help open up new doors. Take it one step at a time and don’t downplay how you’re feeling! Your mental health matters. :blue_heart:
