Do you feel emotionally safe at work? đź’Ľ

Hey everyone,

Feeling emotionally safe at work is so important. It’s about being able to be yourself, share your thoughts openly, and not worry about being judged. But creating this kind of environment isn’t something that just happens—it’s something we all need to work on together.

:sparkles: How has emotional safety (or the lack of it) impacted your work life? :sparkles:
:arrow_right: What changes do you think could help make your workplace feel safer? How can we all come together to build a more inclusive and supportive environment?

Let’s share our thoughts and ideas so we can support each other in making our workspaces places where everyone feels valued and understood.

totally agree, emotional safety at work is everything. if you can’t be yourself or feel like you have to hide your thoughts, it just makes work feel so much harder. i’ve definitely felt the effects of not having that kind of support; it makes you second-guess everything and feel disconnected.

i think having an environment where we can have open and non-judgemental conversations is crucial and leaders actually showing they care would make a big difference. people need to know they’re heard and that it’s okay to speak up.

thanks so much for sharing your thoughts @annabelle! I totally agree, feeling like you can’t be yourself or speak up openly definitely makes work more challenging. It’s crucial that leaders not only say they support open communication but also actively show it through their actions.

You mentioned open and non-judgmental conversations, which I think is key. What do you think are some crucial steps that leaders or even colleagues can take to make that happen? How can we, as individuals, contribute to creating that kind of space for each other?

honestly, i’ve noticed that when i don’t feel safe to speak up, i start holding back ideas and just end up doing the bare minimum to avoid any issues. it’s like putting on a work “mask,” which just makes things feel disconnected and low-key exhausting. one thing i think could really help is if leaders and coworkers showed more vulnerability themselves—like, if they opened up a bit or admitted to their own struggles, it would make everyone feel less afraid to be real. when people see it’s okay to be human at work, i think it naturally creates a safer vibe. curious if anyone else has felt that “mask” thing too? or just me?

In my workplace, people make fun of people with anxiety problem…so sad knowing no support from people around us…

hey @Alisya5 thank you for sharing so openly. That “work mask” you described is something I think many people can relate to! it’s like a way of self-protection that can unfortunately make work feel exhausting. You’re absolutely right when leaders and colleagues show vulnerability, it can make a big difference. It reminds us that we’re all human and that it’s okay to be real at work. How do you think your team might respond if someone did start opening up more? Or have you seen examples where this approach has helped?

hey @SNOOZE22, thank you for sharing this, it’s so sad to hear that others aren’t being supportive, especially with something as challenging as anxiety :< It’s hard to be yourself when you feel judged, and that’s exactly why creating a safe environment is so important. No one should feel isolated at work. Maybe, with time, we can all work toward a culture where compassion and understanding come first. In the meantime, know that you have a community here that understands and supports you.
