First of all, cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure (or any disease), there are many causes and reasons. A healthy lifestyle is very important not only in controlling but also preventing the above health problems. A healthy lifestyle involves exercise, nutrition, enough sleep, avoiding smoking/vaping and taking care of mental health. Genetics also play an important role and need to be taken into account. To be healthy we need to take care of ALL below, not just one. I always say that it is like the 5 pillars of health (just like the pillars of Islam)
- Maintain mental health (stress)
- Quit smoking/Vape
3 Sufficient sleep (recommended 7 hours a day)
- Balanced and correct food (please refer to a dietitian)
- Consistent exercise 30min 5 times a week)

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, Hasilawati. I completely agree with you—there are so many factors that contribute to overall health and it’s really about taking a holistic approach.
As you mentioned, it’s not just one thing but a combination of habits, like staying active, eating well, and managing stress. It’s great that you highlighted mental health and sleep as well, since they’re often overlooked but are just as important.
It really is like the pillars you described—each one supports the others, and together they help create a strong foundation for health. Genetics, as you pointed out, are also a key piece of the puzzle, reminding us that everyone’s journey is a little different. Thank you again for sharing such valuable insights!
